52. Breaking the At-Large Lock with Rep Bob Marshall

A bill in the state legislature that would provide better representation in CO counties

My guest today is Representative Bob Marshall who represents Highlands Ranch (HD43) at the state capitol. He’s introduced a bill this session, HB26-1203, to address at-large voting in county commission elections. Don’t know what that means? I got you! In this episode Rep Marshall breaks down the history of at-large elections and why they historically have excluded political minorities from being represented. He also talks about how his bill corrects that and provides better governance for the people of Colorado who live in larger counties (like us here in Douglas County).

This conversation is directly related to how we can get better commissioner representation, accountability, and oversight in Douglas County.

Cheers, engaged citizens! Let’s get to work.

Listen to house committee testimony on Rep Marshall’s bill, 3/2/26 at ...honestly who knows when! But after 1:30pm. Committee schedules are fluid so check this link first.

Fill out Angela Thomas’ interest form for the effort moving from 3 to 5 commissioners. Three commissioners wield too much power in a county of almost 400,000. If you need more info, you can contact her at angthomas2025@gmail.com.

If you’re a Democrat in Douglas County, don’t feel the FOMO! Sign up for caucus here.
