Thank you for the short history of the Douglas County Commissioner's progression to cut off general public comment that is essentially a real-time, direct check from the citizens that is more immediate than voting against Commissioner actions after they are in effect.

Thanks too for the education and clear actions that concerned citizens can take.

Thank you, Emily, for such a clear-eyed and thorough breakdown of what’s happening at the County Commission and why it matters.

General public comment isn’t a nuisance or a spectacle; it’s one of the few direct checks residents have on county power. When that disappears, so does transparency, accountability, and trust.

I appreciated you grounding this in real examples, especially Sterling Ranch, which shows exactly why public comment exists in the first place — to create a public record and ensure residents’ voices can’t be rewritten after the fact. I was proud to attend that BOCC meeting and support the residents in their efforts.

I believe democracy only works when people are welcomed into the process, not pushed out of it. Engagement should be encouraged, not managed away.

Grateful for the work you’re doing to inform Douglas County residents and keep these issues in the light.
